" A blend of neo soul, alternative R&B, left-field pop & trip hop "

As a multidisciplinary, cosmopolitan artist, Martha Da’Ro traces new paths in her own way. Of Angolan origin, Martha Canga Antonio – her real name – has explored every corner of Belgium. Born in the South of the country, and raised in the North, she now lives in the heart of the kingdom, Brussels, the European capital. Along the way, the singer gained solid experience of slam within the Soul’Art collective in Mechelen, before exploring multiple sonic possibilities as a solo artist.

With her airy timbre and poetic lyrics, Martha Da’Ro emerged in 2018 with the single ‘Summer Blues’. Two years later, she refined her artistic DNA with ‘Cheap Wine & Paris’, an EP driven by R&B inclinations and a desire to experiment beyond established musical formats.

Besides music, she started a film career. In 2015, she played her first role in ‘Black, a movie directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The film brought her numerous awards, including the Shooting Star prize at the Berlinale in 2016. This led her to other international productions (‘Adoration’, ‘A Girl from Mogadishu’). In autumn 2023, she appeared alongside French super star Omar Sy in ‘Lupin, a hit series produced by Netflix.

In connection with her acting, Martha’s music evolves and takes cinematic paths, with each word offering multiple images and collective representations. Scripted around the theme of love and, in particular, “the fear of falling in love”, her new ‘Philophobia’ album crosses genres and continents, reinventing trip-hop and bringing some breathtaking melodies into the great history of the Angolan diaspora. Accompanied by sophisticated orchestrations or backed by the voice of Lisa Kaindé-Diaz, half of the group Ibeyi, the Belgian singer sets minds free and gives new meaning to love. At the crossroads of Afrofuturism, neo soul and alternative R&B, Martha Da’Ro records the soundtrack of a changing world.
