" Bright colours, expressive dance moves and passionate beats "
Baby Volcano, also known as Lorena Stadelmann, is an exceptional musician with Guatemalan and Swiss roots. Her artistic vision encompasses music, performing arts, and costume design, all inspired by the natural world and the human body. The name “Baby Volcano” is a fitting moniker for this artist, given her fascination with volcanoes and their ability to simultaneously create and destroy. Her work often evokes a sense of mystery and organic wonder, much like the unpredictable nature of volcanoes.
Baby Volcano‘s sound is a fusion of Spanish and French lyrics, sometimes blending both languages within a single song. It’s the kind of music that transports the listener to a world of vibrant sounds and imagery, leaving a lasting impression.
Her debut EP, ‘Síndrome Premenstrual’, released in September 2021, showcases her distinctive style, and incorporates electronic sounds, latin rhythms, and hip-hop vibes. ‘Síndrome Premenstrual’, premenstrual syndrome, or PMS – the EP’s name immediately evokes certain associations. First and foremost pain, but also confusion, anger, even banalities such as skin issues – the list goes on.
Baby Volcano has thus dedicated each song on the EP to a different part of the menstruating body, including the uterus, heart, lungs, solar plexus, throat, and skin. Each song explores the various emotions and physical sensations that come with menstruation.
For instance, the song ‘SOUS LA TERRE (POUMON)’ (‘underground (lung)’) has a slow beat that is almost meditative and encourages listeners to breathe along with the rhythm. Despite the calming beat, the haunting melody and lyrics add to the emotional depth of the song. In contrast, ‘LE COMBAT (COEUR)’, (‘the fight (heart)’), has a sweet and loving tone that almost feels like a lullaby, whereas ‘SWISS ANXIETY (PLEXUS SOLAIRE)’ is a fiery and fast-paced track that incorporates elements of trap music and conjures intense emotions, such as anxiety and frustration.
In addition to her captivating music, Baby Volcano’s intense dance performances add a new dimension to her music videos. They are always a visual treat, displaying her stunning performances as a dancer. Her dance style is a unique blend of contemporary moves that are fluid and erratic at the same time, complementing her music perfectly. She uses her body to express herself and convey emotions. Whether she sings live or dances in videos or on stage, Baby Volcano always offers a mesmerizing experience for the viewer.
