" A young female artist reawakening the Luxembourgish scene "
On her official website, C’est Karma sends her greetings: “Hello. I am Karma, a 20-year-old human being exploring electronic pop music and writing words. Between the struggles of womanhood and the bliss of pasta, C’est Karma is me trying to make sense of it all.” This self-description feels quite accurate to those who have been following the early stages of her burgeoning career since 2020.
In May 2022, C’est Karma’s new EP showed an interesting new direction for her ever-evolving sound, having a go at hyperpop – the galaxy Charli XCX and PC Music mastermind A. G. Cook inhabit. Before that, Karma Catena (her real name) had already showed us her passion for avant-garde folk, like CocoRosie and experimental visionaries such as Björk, Billie Eilish and Kate Bush. She also enjoys Idles, the punk movement and Little Simz. One common point between all these different influences: the strong commitment of these artists, each of whom have a message to deliver. Just like them, C’est Karma is not afraid of speaking up or taking action if need be. Her daring attitude finds a perfect expression in her music.
This young woman grew up in Luxembourg City, born to a Portuguese and Italian father. She currently lives in Amsterdam where she studies at university – a true European artist without borders. The title of her newest EP is ‘Amouse-Bouche’, the French word for “appetizer” and as a consequence it includes song titles mentioning things to eat (‘Spaghetti on Repeat’, ‘Gateaux’), drink (‘Coffee’) or chew (‘Bubblegum’). The main course is coming soon!
