" Synth pop with a gentle approach "

Cupid Girl plays the dramatic electro queen: accessible but sprinkled with lush pop. The LGBTQIA+ act from Norway create an indie pop sound that feels familiar and fresh, exploring both vintage synth and modern electronic pop. They launched their musical career in 2021 with the single ‘Call Me in July’, achieving critical acclaim with their catchy sound. On their debut EP, ‘Stages Of Healing’, they’ve created vibes similar in feel to HAIM, Christine and the Queens, and girl in red, delivering a sound laden with powerful vocals and strong lyrics. Take for example their recent hit, ‘I Drop Everything’: a dynamic, put-it-on-a-loop listen, with a Florence + The Machine bouncy vibe and a stonkingly huge chorus, about a toxic relationship that needs to end.

In June 2023 they released their first full-length album, ‘Stupid Cupid’. On it, the light, sweet sound of their vocal floats on top of the airy arrangements, and when paired with breezy keyboards, swaying guitars and big choruses, it makes for an easy listen that has the feel of a carefree day. Occasionally there is some melancholy (for example on ‘In Your Eyes’), but the artist seems to prefer exploring love’s dark corners using a magnifying lens and more uplifting soundscapes (such as in the Jessie Ware-like track ‘Feel The Way I Feel’). In the end, they all blend into an album that balances out ideally. Cupid Girl make excellent indie pop, and this gentle, more organic approach really pays off.
