" One of Austria’s best upcoming singer/songwriters "

23-year-old Clemens Bäre, aka doppelfinger, has been writing and composing music for years, but, initially, did not mean for it to ever reach the public’s ears. Music is really a means for Clemens to connect with and process his own thoughts and emotions. But music is also a means of communication, and, eventually, his wish to be heard became too great – fortunately for us.

doppelfinger’s recently published debut album ‘by design’ symbolises his wish not to hide anymore, not only by the simple act of publishing it, but also by the lyrics that intricately address it. In particular, ‘my oh my’ reveals the conflict between wanting to share his thoughts and emotions, but not being able to. The isolation in which Clemens tends to write his music is transmitted clearly by slow and thoughtful melodies.

That is not to say that the whole album is full of sadness and dark emotions. The striking beauty of doppelfinger’s songwriting lies in the small bits of happiness and hope that flare up here and there. ‘quite alright’, for example, reminds us that whatever trouble or strife comes our way, we will come out on top: “life sure isn’t fair”, doppelfinger sings, but, in the end, it definitely is – or will be – ‘quite alright’.

As for the production of the album, doppelfinger was definitely in good company. With the support of Austrian greats like Jakob Herber (producer of Culk, Anger, FLUT), Sophie Lindinger (mixing), Lukas Lauermann on cello and OSKA for backing vocals, ‘by design’ became a masterpiece of a debut album.
