" A Swiss singer-songwriter with lo-fi guitar sounds "
Ever since she was a child, Emilie Zoé wanted to tell stories by playing music and singing. Her dreams came true as an adult. With her raw electric guitar and wild imagination, this self-taught musician has become one of the leading figures on the Swiss indie scene – she even got a well-deserved Swiss Music Award in 2019 for her innovative creations. While recording her own projects, the singer-songwriter has also been adapting her music to various art forms for a few years: theater, TV shows, movie soundtracks, readings… Since she has always listened to English-speaking artists, she likes using the language in her lyrics even though it is not her mother tongue – Emilie Zoé was born and raised in the French-speaking region of Switzerland.
Her first release, ‘Empty’ (2013), could be considered a mini album or a long EP, with its six songs. One thing is certain: Emilie wrote it alone and was in charge of the production and the artwork. This taste for the DIY work ethic and lo-fi sounds has never left her mind. Several albums followed, including ‘Dead-End Tape’ (2016) and ‘The Very Start’ (2018), both capturing her intense personality. In 2020, she unveiled a collaboration with Christian Garcia-Gaucher called ‘Pigeons’, an alternative soundtrack to a film by Roy Andersson. Luckily, the pandemic has not put her creativity on hold: she kept on working on her next album, ‘Hello Future Me’. So far, evidence suggests, her future self will be just as interesting as the person who first rippled onto the scene at the very beginning of her career.
