" Go clubbing with a jazz band from space "
Imagine yourself in a dark crowded club dancing with your eyes closed, sweating, feeling a strong connection to a bunch of strangers on the dancefloor. Not knowing where you are, but feeling safe and blessed. Listening to Freakin’ Disco brings those kinds of memories.
Some people say that a Freakin’ Disco performances can put them into a trance. They’re a collective of musicians from Hungary that got together at jazz school, but realised that they wanted to make more than jazz music. They wanted to create a sound that inspired and felt more than the sum of their human parts. Something spiritual. Like a magical transcendent journey with their instruments, while creating hypnotic and tribal beats, merged with a blend of guitar riffs, and wacky synths.
The four piece is probably one of European music’s best kept secrets, being played by some amazing DJs and showcased on really cool blogs and websites. You can easily imagine their music being played in several summer festivals, at your local sneaker shop, or during a house party hosted by your best friend from college.
They have been working with award-winning mixer and producer Steve Dub to achieve this sound, which joins synths and drums in perfect harmony, as if they collected all the universe’s energy from Depeche Mode to Leftfield, New Order to Prodigy, like if The Chemical Brothers got together with BadBadNotGood, and invited along The Rapture to jam all together.
Is this indie-punk-jazz-electro-psy-rock-music? Or something else? Freakin’ Disco is the kind of band that is hard to describe… But super easy to dance to.
