It has been a long time since Poland had an artist who evoked so much emotion and enjoyed such favor among both listeners and critics. In fact, Jann achieved all of that at an early stage of his career, even before releasing his first album.
Jan Rozmanowski (his real name) was born into a large family and showed artistic talent from the beginning. He performed in musical theater, and then in the National Opera in Warsaw. As a teenager, he moved from Poland to Ireland, where he began his education at the Flynn Performing Arts School. Later, Jann went to London, where he studied in a vocal class at the BIMM Institute. When he returned to Poland in 2018, still a very young person (born in 1999), he was already a self-aware and educated artist, rich in diverse experiences that influenced the shape of his creativity.
The genre hybrid that is Jann’s sound is full of extremes. That is why the music of this Pole is so difficult to classify – various aesthetics blend, and all of it is accompanied by extreme intensity of emotion. The dominant feature of Jann’s songs is his voice, for which there seem to be no limits – regardless of tempo or pitch, the artist’s vocal absorbs the listener’s entire attention and create the mood of the track, no matter the sound it must mix with. From powerful anthems in the style of Woodkid, through Labrinth‘s emotional pop, to bittersweet ballads like James Blake – the spectrum in which Jann operates is amazing and full of changes. He himself is a volcano of energy, not only in the studio but also on stage. Huge expression, full engagement in live performances, and constant tension-building are characteristic features of his concerts that stay in the memory for a long time.
Jann has attracted attention not only for his exceptional vocal talent – his androgynous look, great care in creating an original image that defies labels, and lack of genre restrictions have become his distinguishing mark on the Polish scene. Additionally, considering the experiences he gained abroad, the artist operates in the English language exceptionally well, which gives his work a universal character and potential to achieve international success.
