" Stirring bittersweet novels sung by one of the most thrilling and hypnotizing voices on the Polish scene. "

For decades, the most popular set up on the Polish music scene was female singer-songwriters playing folk-pop. Recent years have changed this course. In an era of hip-hop domination, female solo projects are still strong, but the sound is different. There are no more guitars; instead there’s a drift towards electronic styles, and KIWI is the brightest example of it.

Wiktoria Nazarian is a half-Polish, half-Armenian vocalist, composer, and songwriter from Kraków. Before starting a solo career, she was a member of several projects, but the decision to go it alone has proven her biggest success. Everything that happens now is a consequence of backing her talent, and a wise vision of herself as an artist.

As KIWI, Nazarian writes stirring bittersweet novels. On the one hand, her lyrics are like love letters to a one and only. On the other, KIWI’s songs are like diaries written for herself, full of the dilemmas of youth.

Wiktoria’s voice, seemingly lazy and sleepy, is thrilling and hypnotizing. Her mainly pop vocal workshop is strongly influenced by R’n’B and soul. Electronic entourage fits perfectly into it. A slick mix of UK trip-hop and the Scandinavian school of electropop sounds fresh and brings natural associations to Bat For Lashes, iamamiwhoami, or Susanne Sundfør.

We’re served all of it on KIWI’s debut album, titled ‘Pętla’ (The Loop in Polish), one of the most moving releases on the local scene this year. It’s not easy-listening music. It’s like entering a unique and enigmatic world that can hook you like a great series. After first listening, you will want another season immediately.
