" Versatile artist spitting vibrant rhymes "
Before she made moves to become a musician, Sahareya was already turning heads as an accomplished dancer, one who even created her own style at the somewhat unexpected intersection of hip-hop and contemporary dance. Even that wasn’t really the final step before hitting the concert stage. First, she starred in the short film ‘Sisters’ by Slovenian director Kukla, which won several awards, including the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival.
Only then did Sahareya start making her presence felt on the regional rap scene as well, even though her love of hip-hop music has been deep rooted since her childhood. Her brother and collaborator DJ SunnySun is one of Slovenia’s most respected hip-hop heads, a crate digger with intimate knowledge of the genre’s evolution both on the global and the local level. Together, the brother and sister represent a formidable duo, SunnySun’s expertise and production skills combining with Sahareya’s energy and versatility to create a bracing urban expression.
Sahareya’s debut album ‘Improvised Colors’ is the result of all these threads, a burst of sonic vibrancy that dips into old-school attitude, chart-friendly catchiness and genre cross-pollination with abandon. Nowhere is this artistic culmination more apparent than in the Kukla-directed video for lead single ‘Other Side’. The colourful explosion of bubbling energy shows off Sahareya’s creative prowess, dance skills and lovable personality, all traits that transfer easily to Sahareya’s dynamic live shows. Her star quality is undeniable, it’s just a question of which direction she’ll take.
